Ralph (3), Mini Schnauzer in London reluctantly needs a new home 14th Sept '22

by Chrishan Mathias
(London)

Hi there,
Hope you're well?
I'm reaching out to see if you can help with rehoming my pet Ralph. He's almost 3yrs old and whilst I love him dearly, his triggers and impulsive nature, coupled with living in a City are now just a little too much for us to handle.
I feel Ralph will be much happier out of London, away from his triggers and in a more controlled environment with a garden.
Ralph's triggers:
skateboards
rollerskates
cats
children
high prey drive
Ralph is not good with small children and has lunged and nipped on 2 occasions.
We have worked with trainers and behaviourists over the last 2/3 years and still finding a lot of issues which we think are made worse by living in London, Ralph growing up through lockdown and impact on some socialisaion aspects that COVID limited.
I have been in touch with the dogs trust, but am reluctant to send him to a kennel and would love to be able to know where he is going, what I think would suit Ralph:
Family home with lots of outside space
no young children
no cat
quiet area with few distractions
he'd love to be with other dogs
Many thanks and hope to hear from you with any tips/advice on next steps.
Regards,
Chrishan

Update
by: Linda

Chrishan,
Can you please tell us what you have decided to do with Ralph.
Several people have expressed an interest in rehoming Ralph, but have no idea what is happening.
Has Ralph found a new home?
Thank you Linda

Rehoming
by: Antony Mount

Hi Chrislan
Remember I spoke to you on the phone last week concerning the possibility of rehoming your Miniature Schaunzer Ralph. Linda has sent me a photo of Ralph and he looks very similar to my last one Lettie when she was young. As told you, I live in Ascot and have a fully enclosed and secure one acre garden. I was a member of the Miniature Schaunzer Club and both my Schaunzers were Kennel Club registered, so I know quite a number of Schaunzer owners, so Ralph can have amble opportunity in meeting and socialising with other dogs of his own kind.
I believe I gave you my contact details when I contacted you, but here they are again.

Forever home
by: Peter&Janet axter

Hi Christian
Perhaps we could offer Ralph a home
We live on the Isle of Wight in a rural location with a very large fully enclosed garden we have two Schnauzers Rupert 5years old spayed male and Rosey 6month old spayed bitch
We have some 30 years plus experience with the Schnauzer breed and have in the past rescued a giant Zac who passed to doggie heaven earlier this year and our standard Rupert who still with us both had behavioural problems but fortunately we are retired so have the time and the ability to offer full time attention and training
How is Ralph with other dogs?
Living on the Isle of Wight gives us access to coastal and country walks.we also participate in the Island Schnauzer club meeting up with other owners for walks
Should we be a good match we would join Ralph in our local vets healthy pet club and take every care with his welfare
Has Ralph been spayed
We would happily keep you informed as to his progress

Ralph
by: Linda

PS, I am hoping some people will contact you over the next couple of weeks.
If you still don't have a suitable home for Ralph, try these peoiple oin this order:
You can try The Miniature Schnauzer Club Re-Home and Rescue Trust - contact Caroline Wareing on 01242 696 768.
Or Schnauzer Houzer on Facebook, who do a great job of rehoming Schnauzers of all sizes and are usually looking for potential adopters.

Good luck,
Linda

PS Let us know the outcome.

good luck!
by: Linda

Hi Chrishan,
Sor sorry to hear Ralph needs rehoming. It sounds like you have tried to do your best for him.
He's such a lovely looking boy, bless him.

Sometimes Minis can be triggered by all sorts of things, as as you say, Lockdown and living in a busy city will not have helped him.
Hopefully one of our experienced owners will be able to help you.

The very best of luck to you and Ralph, and hoping he finds a perfect new forever home.

Best wishes,
Linda
