why is my schnauzer scratching and crawling into small spaces?

My Mini pepper and salt 8 mths old had her first heat recently. She is not pregnant but she is now crawling into wee spaces and scratching the carpet. Is this normal?

Unfortunately we are not animal behaviourists. Our advice is to keep an eye on her, heat can make females act differently, but she should settle down. It sounds like her nesting instinct has kicked in.
She should return to normal soon. If she starts producing milk, this is a false pregnancy, which is not. Uncommon. You can read more about how this at various sites online.
