Whu won't my schnauzer come in the house ?

by Jeff

I have had schnauzers all of my 50 years, all colors.
I have 1 dog 7 months old, a very good dog but when it's time to come in the house he just stands there looking at me and won't come in.
I often have to go and bring him in. Any idea why he is doing this?
Thanks
Regards
Jeff

come in the house ? getting better
by: Anonymous

Well Cody Is getting better he Is just 1 year old ,but I think he was born a bird he loves to chase them and he jumps just like a rabbit, and he has his own routine 7:30am he barks to tell me to open the shade so he can see the birds In the back yard.then If I don't get up by 9am he comes over and starts to lick my face until I get up, smart dog, every day Is something new with both my dogs,I sure would like to get a third dog.I somtimes say lets get a biscuit and they both come running In

Won't come in.. !!
by: Michele

Gosh I too have the same problem.. I let all 3 boys out and Rebel & Rambo come in when they've done, but 8 month old, Benji.. calling and calling, he looks at me as if to say ...... " Mum, Why ", but as soon as I squeak his loud squeaky toy , he gallops up my decking at what looks like 100mph and as I then throw his toy inside he's after it.... close my door and done... Try that and see if it works... it does for me every time..

My White Schnauzer stands there and looks at me also when its time to come in.
by: Lenni's mom

My Mini White just sits about 6 feet from the door and won't come in either. If I leave the door open and walk away he will but otherwise he just sits and stares at me. If I close the door he barks. Driving me crazy!

NOTE FROM LINDA AND MAX:
He is challenging your authority. Sounds like he could possibly be a teenager in dog years - getting to that age where he thinks he is the greatest!
A dose of reward-based training is the remedy.

Puppy won't come inside
by: Michele

It's because he knows that you will bring him in .... if you tempt him with a treat he will come inside..otherwise just say.. " Well if you won't come in you can stay out "... he will get the message as you will walk away and go back inside.. he will follow, maybe not immediately, but he will as he'll want to be with you..As you know Schnauzers are very intelligent.. in fact they think like us humans.. I just leave Rebel out in my garden as sometimes he won't come in either...and he is 4 in June, but he does eventually... about 5 minutes, as he thinks he is missing something !!
