hyper

Quick points, it sounds like he has naturally high energy levels and is not getting enough exercise. Give him more walks, running free off the leash and games to tire him mentally.
Do you know another dog he could run around with for play sessions? Training is also tiring mentally and he would probably benefit from a couple of 5-minute training sessions a day.
Most young dogs are a bit hyper - you were just lucky with your female!
I wouldn't recommend drugging him, just try to meet his different needs to your first girl.
Good luck!

hyper boy!

My 8month old mini schnauzer is wearing me and my husband out!!! Jumps all the time, nearly knocks us down when we come out to liv room in the mornings. He will not walk , just yanks and jumps. I had a female about 10 years ago and she was the almost perfect dog. Not so this boy and he has been fixed

Are there meds you can give them to calm them down??

Excitable puppy

Well at least he is tearing up and shredding papers as long as it's not £5.. £10.. or £20..notes don't worry.. My Rebel, who is nearly 4 loves those cardboard egg boxes, so does Rambo and he is 8, but unless they kill the paper or the cardboard boxes they've not won !! but keep up the training and he'll grow up to be the best behaved Schnauzer in your area....

Boisterous Schnauzer
by: Anonymous

My year old Schnauzer is the same. Growls and barks at approaching strangers when we are out -until they get close..then he greets them. Very very boisterous..jumps and charges at everyone and everything...despite intense training.
Attention seeking...pinches papers, magazines etc and rips them to shreds when I'm on the phone or simply not playing with him.

I spend my time just trying to tire him out.

My Rebel is 4 in June and still very boistrous .. if you want him to calm down maybe you should talk to your vet with a view to castration.... but it may not calm him...
By calming do you mean playful or " naughty " as this may just be a sign of him growing up... be firm and kind, but do not scold him..puppies learn very quickly and will get the message..
