Strange Ears on New Schnauzer

by C
(Alabama)

Yesterday we adopted our 5-month-old Schnauzer.
The owners before us claimed that they had never cropped his ears and that they naturally stood up. Is this normal?
It seems like Schnauzer's with normal ears always flop down instead of staying up.

Ears that stand up
by: Anonymous

Absolutely it's normal for some schnauzers to have ears that stand up. I've had my Maggie since she was 8 weeks and now 7 yrs old. Hers started standing up at about 10-12 weeks and never went back down. It's her most striking feature and people just love to see her turn them like radars to pick up different noises. When you approach her to cuddle she drops them right back which is something she does when she's scared also. Enjoy them.

schnauzer ears

We have eight and they all have different ears. It is normal for them to do whatever the ear wants to do. It gives them their own personality.

ears
by: Dexter's Mom

Our Dexter who we have had know since he was 4 weeks old has ears that stand up, and if he gets real excited or scared they really stand up. Life a cartoon. Our other one Bailey has ears like you think are normal. I love Dexters look because of his ears.
