snorting Schnauzer

My 7-year-old minature schnauzer started snorting really loud and acts like he has something in his throat, but 2 minutes later he is fine.
The snorting is really loud and he gets all tense in his neck and back. He looks like he does when he vomits but nothing ever comes up. He hasn,t done it all day today, but tonight he started again.
Should I be concerned? We just got back from a 4-hour trip.

My yorkie poo does the same thing- we think she is allergic to herself! She seems fine

Hi Marie,
That's what it is - reverse sneeezing - I have owned
two Standard Schnauzers of the years and they both
have done the same thing. So distressing to listen
and see but they are not in any danger.If you look
on youtube people have recorded their dogs doing the
reverse sneeze.

I took Simon to the vet and he told me he was doing a reverse sneeze. He said he is trying to rid his nose of debris and that was how he did it. The dog doesn't understand the loud noise he is making so it sorta freaks him out. The vet said just to pet him and calm him down and he will be fine. He is still snorting, but it has slowed down alot.
