Should I buy a rehome dog

Hi. I have a 12yr old, 9yr old and 3yr old. Should I buy a miniature schnauzer that is 1yr 4month old for $100 rehoming fee? Owner says she is moving. Dog is timid so not sure if she will be good for my 3yr old, because my son will not understand to let puppy slowly get use to us. Or should I start with a young puppy for my family?

Rehomed schnauzer
by: Elgnarc

Just remember that a rehomed dog may have problems. We've had several, most were no real trouble but our latest mini schnauzer had serious problems. He was 4 when we got him. Owner had a child when Charlie was one year old and then the problems started, apparently. We now think that he was rehomed at least once before us and was seriously deprived of love and attention. We've now had him 3 years and it has been very difficult. Basically he is a great dog, good pedigree etc but he was very afraid of humans and showed this by aggression. With outside help I think that we have cured him. He has always been very affectionate with us but not always with others. Without our care and love he would probably not be here so it was worth it but remember that it is not always easy as we do not know what baggage a rehomer might have.

Maybe neither?

I think I might be tempted to wait until your old dog passes away. Often old dogs don't like lively new pups or dogs being added. Whatever you decide, good luck
