Schnauzer pees everywhere

I can not get my 2 year old mini schnauzer to stop peeing in the house. She even pees in her crate.

Frustrated with schnauzer
by: Anonymous

My boy is seven years old and two years ago He started marking territory in several places in my new remodeled garage. Asked the vet and reported this is normal for terriers who are not able to run and mark his territory other places. I have taken him out and his still pees in the garage. Last week I caught him peeing in my house on the curtains. He spent the night outside in the garage which has never occurred. Just not sure what to do.

Leaking or squatting?
by: Anonymous

Is she squatting? If not I think she may have the same issue as my schnoodle, Sylvia. She leaks urine when she is sleeping or relaxed. She is on hormones now and it is helping, but she was always worried/embarrased after she leaked too. My Sister in law has her sister, Kia, and she has the same issue. The vet told me it could be that she has a genetic issue with her urinary tract or the vet who spayed her could have damaged her during the process. However from what I have found doing some research, and the fact that the hormones are helping, I believe she was spayed too young and therefore did not develop properly.

After the mess
by: Anonymous

I try to put her out if I catch her in the act or immediately after (I don't know which is worse, stepping in a warm spot or a cold one.), but sometimes she has already gone to hide in her crate. I'm not sure if she's afraid she's in trouble, embarrassed/ashamed or all of the above. The vet said it could be another urinary tract infection, but we set up an appointment to check her out along with a round of antibiotics. I think he is planning on doing x-rays.

I agree
by: Phil

Hi,
Yes, I would get her checked out - there has to be a reason for her doing this. Schnauzers are sensitive creatures and it sounds like is it causing her some discomfort - whether emotional or mental - to pee in the house.
If you have her checked out physically, I would explain the behaviour to your vet and see if he knows what may have triggered this if there is no physical cause.
Have you tried putting her outside immediately AFTER she has made a mess?

Pees in her crate
by: Anonymous

It is sorta of new, and by that I mean she goes thru phases where it happens more often than me just not realizing she's asking. She's only 21/2. I got her from a shelter a yr ago last January. The first time it started was last Oct when she got an infection. We took her to the vet when we noticed blood in her urine. This time, while I dont see any blood, I'm thinking maybe I should have her checked for stones. I beginning to think she just can't hold it. She either feels really guilty or just doesn't care..she just squats in the floor and then goes lays in her house like she is disciplining herself.

is this new?
by: Phil

Is this a new habit or has she always done it? If it is a new habit it is probably linked to the fact that something has changed in your household and she is reacting badly to it.
Try and think of possible causes and then try and remove them or start house training again.
There is a reason for it, schnauzers do not normally soil or wee in their crates
