rescue schnauzer Josey's strange toilet habit

by Linda
(Macon, GA, USA)

We adopted a 3 year old minature schnauzer from the dog pound one week ago. She waits 10 to 13 hours to pee.
We take her out frequently when we are home and sometimes she will go, but only when the timing happens to be 10 to 13 hours.
We cannot always be home at the exact time she needs to go so she goes in the floor. I keep her in the laundry room when we are out.

I keeping hoping she will adopt to our schedule. Any suggestions?

Your Rescue's Toilet habits

I agree with Betsy.. The laundry room is NO PLACE to leave your girl.. she needs company and plenty of walks.. do also monitor her water intake.. Schnauzers are very sociable and DO NOT like being cooped up for hours on end, with no-one to interact with and play with..

walk her

Have you monitored her water? Is she drinking enough? The first thing I would do is to begin walking her. Dogs love and need this and it might just relax her enough that she would take care of business along the way.

I also would never leave a dog in a laundry room.
A barred off section of the kitchen, etc. if necessary. But, not a laundry room.

Josey's toilet habit

Why do you leave Josey for so long..?. maybe it's some form of separation anxiety.. as coming from the pound, there maybe something wrong... If I were you I'd get her checked out by the vet and explain what is happening and how she came into your family.. do you know her background, before you took her ? she may have had this problem when you got her, and this is probably why she became a Rescue.. 'cos the previous owners couldn't cope, or there was a baby due.. Schnauzers are very loving, and stubborn and also VERY CLEAN.. so there must be a reason..

10 to 13 hours to pee
by: Lucy Valentine

The dogs like a set schedule. You should try keeping her in a gate in your living room instead of the cold laundry room. My dog is on that same schedule as well. 10 to 13 hours is very impressive.
