Or ex-breeder schnauzer is skittish - is this normal

by John H
(Oakville Ontario)

Our adopted ex-breeder female miniature schnauzer was brought up in a farming environment.
She is skittish still after 4 weeks in our townhouse with a yard, and lies in her basket at the window all day.
She will only now follow when called to go for a walk.
Sha was de-wormed by the breeder and neutered 5 weeks ago.
She is afraid of children walking to school and looks around to check if all is safe. She is OK with other dogs, is excellent on the leash, obeys to stay and sit!

BUT DOES NOT YET MOVE FREELY IN THE HOUSE!

Any suggestions??

Thanks

John

Thanks for the feedback Betsy.

We are doing the same thing you write and are beginning to reap results, albeit slowly.

lots of love

We adopted Spiffy when she was about a year. Had been in a bad situation and was scared of everything. She spent the first month curled up in a little ball and would shake when we came near her. We would sit next to her and pet her, made sure we had treats (little pcs. of vegetables) readily available, and gradually day by day she got less skittish and scared. We've had her 6 years now and to say she owns this house and this yard is putting it midly. Just give your dog time, and lots of love and patience.
