miniature schnauzer puppy - is he normal?

by Cathy

Hi,
Im in the process of buying a miniature schnauzer. He is 6-7 weeks old and when i went to see him at the weekend i felt he wasn't reacting much. He may have just been sleepy.
Is this normal for a puppy this age. Other than this he looked really healthy and is living in a good and caring enviroment.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
Cathy

New puppy

It will be the best thing you have ever done.. owning a Mini Schnauzer.. they are one of the most intelligent breeds, and sometimes they thing they are human.. I know my boys, if they didn't want to carry on playing they walked away..as if to say.. I've had enough, and done that, so show me another command !!
If you would like to send me your email address we will keep in contact that way, as I'd like that very much.. I have had 3 Minis.. but have just one now and an Australian Silky.. Have your camera ready, when you get your puppy, cos they grow up fast.. I keep in contact with another lady from this wonderful site.. You may have seen my photos and posts as my two are called.. Rebel 2, my Mini... and Rambo, he's my Australian Silky...my others were Rebel 1 and Ringo.. now gone over Rainbow Bridge...

Thank you for the advice Michelle. I've never owned a dog before so just wanted to check that this was ok. Can't wait to bring him home in a couple of weeks.

Is he Normal..?
by: Michele

Yes of course he is normal.. how about the other puppies ,or is he just one on his own ? Puppies at that age do .. eat sleep and toilet.. try to ask your breeder if you can hold him.. usually it's OK.. I know it is was when I bought mine, but my boys were 8 weeks.. As long as your intended new puppy is sleeping he's happy and contented.. don't worry.. at what age are you going to bring him home.?.. as most breeders say 8 to 10 weeks, then he can bond with his new family..but remember make a special place for him before you bring him home.. a largish crate and plenty of newspaper at one end, his comfy bed at the other, in case of little accidents, then he will know that for the time being that his his domain, short periods is fine but don't leave him in there.. and .. but also remember to interact with your puppy and start training.. Chews to keep their teeth in good order is essential, so no large vet bills.. Find out if your pup will have had his first vaccination before you bring him home.. and if he has will have an Eye Certificate, as mine have.. otherwise these lovely dogs can go blind early if their parents aren't clear.. Have Fun..
