Miniature Schnauzer is acting odd

Has anybody's miniature schnauzer ever had any of these symptoms and if so, what is it? He is 13 years old:
stop jumping around and being happy
stares at the wall and won't move
does not want to be on the bed or couch, only on the floor
acts like it hurts him when I pick him up
walks in circles
does not want to go out the doggy door or go outside
is not going to the bathroom much
drinking lots of water
looks sad
stands for a period time before finally laying down
looks at me like he is trying to tell me something

All these things he is doing is totally out of character for him. I have no idea how to help him. Please advise...thanks!

NOTE FROM LINDA AND MAX: sorry to hear of your mini's problems. It could be one of a a number of things, anything from a stroke to diabetes or other ailments, or it might simply be behavioural. We strongly recommend that you take him to the vet's with a record of his symptoms

Piccina
by: MaryannAnonymous

Thank you Linda for your caring.
Yes, our vet feels Piccina has had a mini stroke, he believes from his exam she may have a lesion on the left side of the brain. She has been at the vets for 2 days getting fluids, we will be picking her up tomorrow, as long as she begins to eat again, we will work very hard to keep our little girl happy.

thank you again……...

NOTE FROM LINDA AND MAX: Hope all goes well, she is in the best hands by the sound of it.

not eating & vomiting
by: Maryann

Our beautiful Piccina is 15 years old, she is doing all of the above, sleeps almost all day, must be hand fed, seems like she cannot put food into her mouth, last night she had some diarrhea & has been vomiting, not eating or drinking water, we are very sad. She also, stands in the corner & stares at the wall. Has anyone else seen these symptoms?

We love our little girl so much………..

NOTE FROM LINDA (AND MAX)
Yes, a similar thing happened to our Collie/Labrador Retriever cross Monty. The vet diagnosed him with a stroke and, sadly, we had to have him put down. I don't know if this is the same as with your lovely Piccina, but I would certainly get her checked out by a vet.

Old age
by: Michele/Australia

Our Harley was the same.....old age comes on very fast with this breed. I have had four schnauzers and this behavior tells me there's about a year to go, give or take a little.

Wee Schnauzer acting strangely
by: Anonymous

I'm so sad to hear these symptoms, our wee dog had the same and we did not know what it was. He had good days and bad days. Which is why we hesitated putting him to sleep. He had dementia. I did not know dogs could get this but once diagnosed it all made sense. We had left it too long making the decision and it was a terrible experience when we had to take him at the end. Don't leave it much longer for him and yourselves.

Kidneys
by: Phil Medway

At thirteen years old this type of behavior could well be related to kidney problems please get your loved on to the vet as soon as possible.
