Miniature Schnauzer has light markings on back

by Gilly

I took my 8 month old miniature salt and pepper schnauzer in to have her coat cut and see now that she is dark all over with blond legs and eyebrows and mustache but she has some very strange blond markings on her back as if someone has spilt bleach all over. Is this normal? Is this anything to worry about?

Defect in her fur and running around as if something is bothering her
by: Anonymous

After a year or so I have noticed that my little schnauzer has totally different fur growing out of those patches on the back..it is obviously a defect. Very strange as it sometimes grows out black and course. I'm now having huge problems with her in that she's always trying to get to her bottom and is also licking the insides of her back legs ..the skin seems to be irritated there. I have also had her anal glands checked and am also feeding her totally raw organic meat and adding omega oil. I really don't know what to do any more. She is always running full speed around as if something is bothering her. She doesn't have fleas. Can anyone help me here?

Your Schnauzer's markings
by: Michele

The groomer has not done a good job, by the sounds of it.. did she clip his coat the wrong way...meaning against the fur growth.. in the opposite direction that the coat grows, as this could be the reason for him looking as if he has been bleached... it also sounds as if your groomer has totally wrecked his wire topcoat.. I would like to see a photo of your dog so then I can, hopefully tell you what is wrong.. if you'd like my email ok.. but can you post a photo of him on this site in .. YOUR STORIES..

Spilt bleach like markings on my schnauzers back
by: Anonymous

Hi Michele I had her clipped short. It really looks like someone has spilt bleach all over her back...really strange! I have since been doing some research and Think it could possibly be zinc deficiency?

Markings on coat
by: Michele

Firstly.. when you took your Schnauzer to the groomer did you tell the groomer to STRIP your dog or did she Clip it.. schnauzers coats are of a DOUBLE thickness, .. soft on the undercoat and harsh on the top coat, the latter being waterproof.. when the coat is hand stripped with a stripping comb the undercoat soft fur comes out leaving the wire coat in tact.. clipping will leave the coat lighter and softer and also the waterproofing will lessen, as the wire topcoat disappears.. I strip Rebel's coat myself about every 3 to 4 months.. but with his soft coat I use scissors and only clippers where necessary.. but never on his wire top coat..
