How safe is it to leave my 4 month old miniature schnauzer in the backyard during the day?

TOO RISKY
by: Regina

I owned a mini schnauzer who was under a year old living on 100 wooded acres and a beautiful ranch house. My children & I were always outdoors and altho we had a circular driveway & took the dog outside only when we were there, someone dognapped him without us even seeing it was so fast. When I spoke to the local vet he told us there were reports of a couple of men dognapping for sale to laboratories. Very horrible experience.

Not safe IMO
by: Betsy, Alpharetta

I'm assuming that you would be at home, but thought he might like to go out for a few minutes while you are nearby. And, hoping you didn't even consider this for times you were not in residence.

In any event, in either case, in my opinion, it is not safe at all.

To begin, there are preditors such as hawks that oven swoop in and can easily pick up a smaller dog. It has happened in my neighborhood and we are in a busy suburban area. Not rural.
In Texas, I expect there are snakes that can harm dogs as well. To say nothing of letting a dog out for a longer period of time in you Texas heat.
Heat strokes are not uncommon to dogs.
These examples are just a few things that come to mind at the moment.

Please supervisor your dog at all times.

by: Louise

Please, please, please don't leave your puppy (dog) in the yard...mine got stolen from my yard. Always stay with him/her when in the yard. I never got my baby back and I still miss him sooooo much. Please don't do it, k?
