Jessie now eating new cat's poop

by Tina Hopkins
(Russellville KY)

Jessie is 5 1/2 yrs. old and the best dog we've ever had, she is pregnant and due on 4/1/2012. We have introduced a 6 month old kitten and they get along fine but Jessie feels the need eat the kitten's poop from the litter box.
First I am afraid of what this will do to the puppies, secondly to Jessie's health, thirdly it's disgusting.
We have even put a lid over the litter box where the kitten has to go through a flap to enter and do her business, Jessie finds a way to stick her head in and eat without getting caught...not sure how.
Please help. Thanks for any help & advice. Tina

JUST FYI

Just to let you know why your dog is doing this...

cat poop still has lots of protein left in it.
Dogs are the great recyclers, so if they smell any potential in it, they'll eat it.
They'll even eat food with no nutrition because they think maybe there is some good left.
I had a dog who ate fresh mulch.. :-D

Kitten poo
by: Michele

Why did you get a kitten when Jessie is expecting shortly... you will have all on with the puppies... so I suggest you give the kitten back and then you'll not worry that Jessie may do harm to the unborn puppies by eating your kitten's poo... the puppies may also take to eating it too, if mum does.... so take the problem away...
