Hypoallergenic Dog Breed

Are you looking for a hypoallergenic dog breed?

Constant Sneezes or A Dog that Pleases?
Would you love a dog but are worried about allergies? Well, so were we. As you might have guessed, we ended up with a Schnauzer - and have never looked back!

Linda and Max the schnauzer, a hypoallergenic dog breed

A hypoallergenic dog breed is non shedding and LESS likely to cause allergies. That doesn't 100% guarantee it WON'T cause a reaction. But it does mean that you are far less likely to be affected.

Have a look at the list below to find a hypoallergenic dog breed that might suit you. Then head over to our page on The Facts About Hypoallergenic Dogs to see if you are likely to be affected - and what you can do to make sure.

Which Breeds are Better?
So, which ARE the dog breeds for allergy sufferers?

We are providing you with Hypoallergenic Dog Breed Lists from both the American Kennel Club (AKC) and The Kennel Club (UK). These are all purebred dogs.

While the Kennel Clubs do NOT say that you will not have an allergic reaction to a particular dog, certain hypoallergenic and non shedding dog breeds are generally thought to be better for allergy sufferers.

Some crossbreeds such as Schnoodles may also be hypoallergenic (or hypo-allergenic) dogs. Whilst a Schnoodle may be perfectly suitable for an allergy sufferer, there is no definite hereditary consistency with crossbreeds. This means that there is variation from one puppy to another – even within the same litter.

If you're an allergy sufferer thinking of getting a dog, we recommend you try and spend some time with that individual puppy or dog BEFORE you take him home.

We hope you're as happy and sneeze-free with your dog as we are with Max....good luck!
