how do we welcome a 4-y-o schnauzer?

We have a 15yr old Yorkie, who is
not in good health, and two cats. A couple is giving away their 4yr old schnauzer as their son is allergic and they cannot keep her.
I know she will miss her buddy, how do we make her feel at home with us and make her leaving the
home she has known?

Also, they said she was white, but picture looked like a very
light silver. Can she be white?
