Hot Spots? Flea Allergy?

by Buddy

Sore

Sore

Sore Sore scabbing and another forming underneath it. The pink is the scars from the scabs.

My dog has dime, quarter and pencil eraser sized spots on his back; we have also found them on his sides and legs.
They puss, scab and the skin falls off.

* I am wondering what they could be and what I could do to help him?

He itches them after they start.
We live in Utah and have been in Texas for 2 months (they started in Texas, right after we got here and have just gotten worse!)
I have multiple fleas on him (there are not fleas in Utah)
I have applied Frontline monthly, we bathe him in flea and tick shampoo.. and have had to cut his hair ridiculously short to try to keep the fleas off of him. (which helps a little).
We have tried:
Bathing, Frontline, Adams plus fleas & tick mist, both on him and the house.
Took him to the vet when it first started (new vet).

I am just not sure were to go from here. We are due to go back to Utah this week and will see the vet when we get there, but until then I just need a little help.

* Could it be flea allergies? If it is can you recommend something to keep them off of him?

* Do I need to worry about taking fleas home with me?
We travel in a travel trailer.

My dog had the same marks due to flea medication allergy
by: Nicole

We used a new flea/tick treatment (Adams) for our dog and it left those exact marks!! My sister is a vet and said it was due to the medication. I kept it clean with iodine and he was all better! We now only use Advantix which works amazingly and we would never use another kind again! Advantix is the way to go!!

Cider Vinegar
by: Anonymous

I was advised to use cider vinegar on these spots. Try a bit first to make sure it doesn't cause discomfort. Other than that, there are doggie sprays for hot spots with anti-itch medicine. The one I bought was PET AID by FOUR PAWS. it was about $8 and I spray it on my mini's paws when she starts chewing and gnawing on them a lot and it does seem to help.
