Giant versus standard

My giant schnauzer, Oliver, just passed away on Friday just before his 10th birthday. Because he was the best dog I've ever had, I'm considering getting another one. However, since Oliver weighed almost as much as I do (105 lbs)I'm wondering if the standard schnauzer might be a better choice. Oliver was affectionate, only barked when appropriate, and loved just about everyone. Do standards typically have the same personality ? I know that some bad behavior is due to poor training.

Giant versus standard
by: Julie

I am so sorry to hear about your giant passing away. They leave a huge hole in your heart when they go but I have found it better to get another one. We have five giants and they are all very different. Standards are far more similar to a giant than a mini is. There is the schnauzer rescue of the carolinas and they usually have a giant or two available. Don't remember if you said where you are or not. HT-Z giant schnauzer rescue is across the country and they often have quite a few giants available in Texas. You can email me at phxgsrescue@hotmail.com if you would like for me to see what I can find out. We all require an application and a home visit.

Good luck! Julie
