gaining weight at age 7

My 7 year old mini schnauzer has gone from 22.5 lbs. to 25 lbs. in the last 6 months. Should I start feeding him diet dog food or senior food, or is this normal with age?

Gaining weight
by: Michele ( Benji & Rebel )

Linda and Max are right..if he's happy and contented he is fine.. my boys weigh just over 10 kilos.. Rebel about 10 kilos45 and Benji about 10 kilos or just a fraction under.. they have Nature Diet mixed in with an equal amount of " Toy & Small Burns Adult Senior. ". the latter because Rambo is 11 and he weighs just over 8kilos… The Nature Diet comes in a box and they get a third each with the Burns .. once daily at 4.30.pm.. One Box between the three of them…It's all natural and they like the Chicken, Vegetable and Rice one..
Give your boy more exercise if you are worried, and he'll be fine..
He might have the start of an over active thyroid so have him checked at you vet, otherwise don't worry..

feeding
by: Linda and Max

Hi there,
Seven years old is too soon to start feeding a mini senior dog food. Start when he slows down a bit, maybe between the aged of 9 and 11 or 12.
No, you don't need diet food, if your dog is doing well on his food, keep him on it, just give him a bit less each meal time - AND CUT OUT THE TREATS!!
Goood luck.
