Dogs communicate with their tails

We have 2 schnauzers, 2 schnoodles, and 1 puggle. (All rescues, so they are pretty much as-is.) The schnauzers and schnoodles have all had their tails docked. Although they do manage to be rather expressive with their stumps, I think it is awful that their tails were docked. Dogs communicate with their tails!
