Color new born mini schnauzer will be

by Ida

Is there a definite way to tell if a new born pup will be black/silver. Not parti, but a true black/silver. At what age can one tell and do ALL black/silver pups have the white streak across their chest. If a pup does not have that chest streak does that mean they won't be black/silver. I've heard some people say they may be a dark salt/pepper but the only salt/pepper schnauzers I have seen are not dark. So, I just want to be sure I am getting a black/silver and not something else. The mother of these pups is B/S and the dad is S/P. Every B/S I have seen has always had that white streak on its chest as well as the white eyebrows, white moustache and white on the bottom of its legs.

Thanks

Black and silver schnauzer

As far as I know the only way to tell a black and silver from a salt and pepper is if they have light coloured hair anywhere around the nostrils, then they are salt and pepper.

B/S Mum & S/P Dad
by: Michele

I got it wrong as you said Mum is Black and Silver and Dad is Salt and Pepper… in the litter depending on how many pups mum had, there may be a variety of Black and Silver and Salt and Pepper.. some pups may be Black and Silver and some Salt and Pepper.. but as I mentioned in my post below, why worry as I'm sure he's gorgeous whatever combination he is..
You can have dark salt and pepper..remember the pups are darker when born to what they are when they gradually grow up.. so if your puppy is now a dark he may become a dark salt and pepper as he grows, or he may stay black and silver…maybe he'll be a true black and silver or a true salt and pepper.. Hope this answers your question... Enjoy him and love him whatever colour he is or turns out to be.... Don't ever shout or punish him, just a firm voice is enough, as Schnauzers are very intelligent and do not like being shouted at or punished, by locking them away.. they are people orientated.

Black and Silver new born puppy
by: Michele

Hi .. in answer to your question.. I have a Black and Silver boy.. he's now 5 years old… His Dad was Black and Sliver & his Mum Black and Silver… but it is possible that your puppy could be dark black and silver.. Rebel has… White front and back legs three quarters of the way down.. he has White under his tail.. he has White eyebrows and a White beard.. his body and his neck under his beard is black , but at the bottom of his chest about three quarter of the way down he's White. his tummy fur is Black… but why worry as all schnauzers are gorgeous and loveable no matter what colour.. be it, Black, White, Black and Sliver or Pepper and Salt.. I asked my breeder and she said the possibility of your pup being a TRUE Black and Silver if as you say his mum is pepper and salt.. may not be the case, but does it really matter .. Sometimes the colour reverts back to previous litters… When I had my Black Schnauzer, sadly he passed away in 2010, age 15.. he was one of Seven puppies and the only black boy in the litter all the other puppies were bitches and were black and silver..

NOTE FROM LINDA AND MAX,
Thanks for the info, Michele
