BLOOD IN URINE

by PAT
(BERWYN, IL)

WE HAVE BEEN DOING ANTIBIOTICS FOR OVER 2 MONTHS. THE VET SAYS BLOOD TESTS SHOW NO CANCER, ALL ORGANS OK EXCEPT FOR THE KIDNEY. HE SAYS I NEED TO BE PATIENT WITH THE ANTIBIOTICS, I AM AFRAID...HOW LONG SHOULD ANTIBIOTICS TAKE? ARE THERE OTHER PROBLEMS...ALLERGIES?

blood in urine of my schnauzer
by: Anonymous

I noticed blood in my schnauzer's urine six weeks ago. The vet immediately and put him on ten days of antibiotics which seemed to help but it didn't do the trick so she put him on 21 more days of anribiotics which did not do the trick. After ten days being off antibiotics she sent in a platelet test which was normal. Now she sent a culture off to check for a bacterial infection or cancer. Any ideas?

Sorry, we are not vets, but there is some useful info here:

Good luck

Blood in urine - UTI
by: Anonymous

My mini had blood in her urine. Antibiotics seemed to cure it but she got it again within 3 weeks. I bought a cranberry doggie treat and that seems to be working.
Women with urinary tract problems are helped with cranberry sauce, and my vet said sometimes the cranberry helps dogs. I don't give her regular cranberry sauce because it has too much sugar. I wouldn't fool with this too long.
Our minis are precious, and if your vet has no idea, then you need to pursue tests or another vet.

Kidney Stones
by: Julie Talbott

My 8 year old white miniature schnauzer had kidney stones. This is a very serious problem and needs to go to the vet asap to be checked out.

Blood in his urine
by: Michele

Firstly has your schnauzer had blood tests as this can be extremely serious? My first Schnauzer Rebel 1 ( pepper and salt & only 11 when he passed away) had blood tests as his protein level was too high, indicating the onset of kidney failure ... he had medication, too but this did not cure things. He then had blood in his urine and went on a drip for 24 hours, to no avail.
I brought him home and within the 4 days that I noticed the blood, he was vomiting liquid as he went off his food, and was very poorly... he passed away in my arms of kidney failure ( see my photo of Rebel 1 in his favourite tree , as that was taken 3 weeks before he said Goodbye.. and you'll see he was a picture of health..)
I hope your Schnauzer will be OK and it's just a kidney infection....
