bald spots on scrotum sack

by Jennifer
(Pulaski, TN)

My miniature schnauzer recently developed bald spots on his scrotum. I called the boarding house where he stayed when we were on vacation and they claim they don't know how he got them.
At times they are so raw they will bleed. I have an appointment with the vet tomorrow but can you tell me what could have caused this or if there is anything I can do to help him? I know it is bothering him because he keeps licking it and he makes a sound when he sits or lays down on them. Thanks.
NOTE FROM LINDA AND MAX:
This is an unusual one - maybe our readers can shed some light on this?

FLEA-LESS BAXTER
by: Michele

I'm so pleased that your vet was able to treat Baxter and my opinion is never ever take him back to that Boarding House
It was probably not cleansed properly.... I Frontline my boys every 6 weeks... 2kg to 10kg for Rambo and Benji as they weigh under 10kg.. and for Rebel 10kg to 20kg as he weighs 11kg... he'll be just fine now as he's been treated... Do you get frontline in your county, as here there is Advantage or Program Flea & Tick treatment..

Vets diagnosis
by: Anonymous

Ok so I took Baxter to the vet and was told he was eat up with fleas (which came from the boarding facilities) He is also allergic to the fleas therefore he has tiny bumps all over his body. I hadn't felt them because his hair was so long. Anyway, the vet thinks maybe the fleas were bothering him so that he licked and chewed making his scrotum raw therefore making it bald. They gave me a prescription of antibiotic since they think it got infected and he has been defleaed with medicine also. They also gave me some numbing medicine to spray on it so he would quite licking and knawing on it (so it would have time to heal. Thanks for ya'll thoughts. God Bless!

NOTE FROM LINDA AND MAX:
Thanks for letting us know, very inmteresting - and well done to Michele for suggesting what the problem was.

Bald spots
by: Michele

Linda and Max are baffled.. so am I .. but here in the UK we have had quite a lot of problems with Fleas.. not me as I tend to treat my boys, but left it a few days too long and then found that Rambo had a few sore and red patches on his thigh and his tail where he's been nibbling and licking.. also on his tummy near his private parts.. and then found a flea.. my other two also got a couple.. but now are FULLY FLEA- FREE.. it's the warm weather.. Does he suffer from any allergies ?.. Pine Needles can make him sore if he sits amongst them.. I might be wrong.. PLEASE see your Vet, and keep us up to date.. Something is obviously upsetting him, so sure your vet will know.. maybe he has a little too high Blood Pressure..
