Sweet Mercy Stop the Scratching!

by Kimberly
(Tennessee)

I have two mini Schnauzers (10yrs old, brothers), they BOTH started scratching at the same time about 4 weeks ago. First, I must say, when one gets sick the other gets sick also, they project the same symptoms as each other....the vet seems to think it's stress of when one gets sick the other does also.
Anyway, about 4 weeks ago they started scratching and biting at EVERY part of their body they could get to, including bottom of paws. Now their hair is thinning out and they have dry scales and small scabs from continually scratching.
We have not changed their food, started any new meds, no construction in the house, no stress (that I know of), no new shampoos and fenced in back yard. We are exhausted and I know the pups are too from scratching. It is literally almost 24hrs a day!
I plan on taking them to the vet but just wanted to see if anyone else has had this problem or if you have any suggestions till we can get them in. Oh, back in Sept the vet cut their food back to 1/2 cup two times day (so 1 cup daily total) due to digestive issues. I have noticed they have lost weight...could their symptoms be from malnutrition? The vet said they would not lose weight but after 2 months we can really tell a weight drop since food amount has been changed.
Thanks!!!!
