Possessive Schnoodle - how do I stop him?

is it normal for the breed of a schnoodle to be possessive of a human?
I have a 3 year old Schnoodle and a couple times now when I try to take him away from my son at night or when my partner tries to take him away from me he will growl and/or snap at us?
How do I stop him from doing that?
