Norman Schnauzer - barking frenzy

My 18 month old male mini schnauzer barks furiously at everyone who approaches the house. He also hates letting anyone other than the family inside! On walks he barks at every dog he meets! He is such a loving little chap to the family and I know he is 'all mouth and no trousers'. What can I do?
