My mini schnauzer is on medication for seizures

My dog is 16 months old and had two bouts of cluster seizures, He is on Phenobarb now and doing well. I contacted the breeder, she says she doesn't have experience with this and has been breeding for 12 yrs.
Do I trust her?
Any insight into treating and monitoring dogs with seizures would be helpful.
