Looking for a Hiking Companion - Mini or Standard?

by Nancy Newcomer
(Wildwood, MO)

Hi,

I, too, have a slight dog allergy. I grew up with two miniature schnauzers and had no problems. My husband and I ended up with cathoula puppy about 20 years ago and I began have to react once we closed the house and turned on the heat.
We decided to give the puppy to friends who were also looking for a dog. It broke both our hearts.

I miss the companionship I experienced with my schnauzers! I love to hike (more so than the rest of the family) and would love a hiking companion. Do you think minis would be game for a four mile daily walk, and, an occasional 6 to 8 mile hike? Or, would a standard be a better match?
