Kennel for Schnauzer?

How long do I need to use a kennel for my Mini Schnauzer?
We have let her sleep in the bedroom but she goes for the loveseat in the living room. We have left her to the run of the house for a few hours and she seems fine.
She is one year old. Thanks for the help.
