Ballistic schnauzer

My mini schnauzer is fine being groomed until I get to his head. He goes ballistic!
We've tried forcibly holding, reprimanding, bribing. Nothing works. I've muzzled him because he tries to bite but he gets away from us.
Oh I've also tried the doggie calming tablets also. Didn't faze him. It's the sound of the clippers, I think, that bothers him.
I've tried three different clippers. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Are there any quiet clippers or some sort of razor with a guard that makes no sound?
