Adpoted a Schnauzer

We have recently adopted a mini schnauzer from the shelter. They did not know his history since he was picked up as a stray. They believe he`s about 4 years old and he was just recently fixed just two months ago by the shelter.

He`s well adjusted at home and with us. When we take him to the dog park he is happy to meet all the smaller dogs and even lets them jump and climb all over him. We know that he is quite a talker, as most schnauzers are, but he seems to get quite violent with big dogs. First it`s a stare down and then it becomes a violent bark. This happened most recently with a bull mastiff, of course....the biggest dog that was at the park.

Do you know anyway we can resolve this problem? Could it be possible that he was attacked by a bigger before? Or is it a dominant thing?
