10-Week Old Schnauzer Puppy Very Shy

Hey there guys - I just bought the most adorable little 10 week old schnauzer puppy two days ago.. He loves to be cuddled and doesn't seem shy with any people, which I think is great.
The only problem is he seems VERY shy as far as his environment. He doesn't seem to want to go explore or run around but would much prefer to just cuddle and stay on person or in his little nest. ...
I'm used to puppies having lots of energy and playing endlessly and I know I have a window to socialize him until about 12 weeks ..
Is this common, will he snap out of it and because more social as he grows up or do I have a very timid shy doggy on my hands??
